BTS Business Meeting

Employer step by step guide

Our Business Training Solutions Team will support you every step of the way to help you recruit the best Apprentices for your business.

Click on the steps below to see how:

A member of the Business Solutions Team will contact you to discuss what you are looking for and advise on an apprenticeship to match your requirements.

Once the apprenticeship has been decided, your representative will discuss what a typical day in the work place will involve to write up a detailed job description and person specification.

The working week and hourly rate will be decided alongside any other prerequisites to be included in the application.

At this stage you will sign a formal learning agreement.

The vacancy will then be advertised through the National Apprenticeship website, the Northumberland College website and on our social media pages.

The Business Solutions Team will deal with the sifting of applications and initial interviews.

We will liaise with you throughout and once we feel we have selected the most suitable applicants we will either send you their CVs for you to arrange interviews, or alternatively let us know a suitable date and we will book interviews for you.

Once a vacancy is being advertised we will arrange to conduct an Employer Registration with you.

This will include conducting a Health and Safety Assessment.

This Website offers advice and guidance on Health & Safety requirements in the workplace www.hse.gov.uk

Once you have made an offer of employment to a candidate, we will need to liaise with you to confirm their start date to coincide with their enrolment.

You will now need to employ your apprentice with your own contract of employment. This will need to include details of your apprentice's working week, details of any personal protective equipment, wage and holiday entitlement.

When you have completed the interview process and have found your ideal candidate ready to recruit, a member of our Apprenticeship Academy team will visit you and your apprentice in the work place to enrol and confirm all mandatory and optional units to be included in the NVQ qualification.

Your new employee will not be considered an apprenticeship until enrolment has taken place.

The Apprenticeship Academy team will keep in contact with you on a regular basis throughout the apprenticeship, including visits to your place of work. Your apprenticeship assessor will oversee all aspects of learning and lead on the delivery of your apprentice's vocational study programme.

If the apprentice is completing an NVQ that is delivered entirely in the workplace, the assessor will spend their visits supporting the apprentice through the theoretical aspects of the qualification.

An apprentice on day release will complete this in college however you will still have assessor visits to ensure that everything is running smoothly.

Congratulations, your apprentice has successfully finished the programme and will now receive their nationally recognised qualification.

You may now offer them the next level of apprenticeship, a full time position or both.
